Hello! My name is Scott Brill and in December, 2021, I became the new Library Director of the Derby Public Library. I have worked in libraries for over 16 years, primarily in Milford and Shelton, where I most recently served as the Circulation Supervisor of the Huntington Branch Library. I received my MLIS in 2020 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where I was chosen by the faculty and my fellow classmates to give the student commencement address at graduation ceremonies. It has been my pleasure these past few months to meet and get to know the staff and board members of DPL, as well as our patrons, who have shared numerous stories and anecdotes with me about Derby and the Library, along with reviews of their favorite books and movies. It is a fascinating part of the job of a Library Director to hear from people who use the library, as it is truly helpful to learn more about the interests and ideas of the community.
So please stop by my office sometime for a brief chat about your favorite book, or allow me to give you an informative tour of the library building, or perhaps I can regale you about my time as a contestant on Jeopardy!, or talk about my love of the sport of tennis, or my work as a community theatre director/actor. Or just to say “hello.” The DPL staff and I look forward to welcoming back longtime patrons and new library users this summer as we begin to do more in-person programming again after these past two years. We hope the public will continue to feel that the Derby Public Library offers a friendly and inviting environment to discover information, find just the perfect book to read or movie to watch, study in one of our desk areas, explore the world around us via the internet or by researching questions with our reference librarians, attend a fun and/or thought provoking program or find a comfy spot to read a newspaper, magazine or book.
Scott R. Brill,
