Baby and Me
This program designed for infants 0 to 12 months old includes songs, rhymes, movement, board books and interaction with their caregiver. It’s never too early to introduce your baby to books. This 20 minute lap sit program is followed by play and conversation.

Nursery Rhyme Time
Toddlers 12-24 months with caregiver are invited to join this half-hour program which includes finger plays, stories and rhymes along with music and movement activities.

Time for Two’s
Stories, rhymes, songs, movement and a simple craft are part of this story time offered for children ages 25-36 months old along with a caregiver.

“Terrific Three’s”

Age 3 years old, Fridays @ 10 AM, January 17th to March 14th, Multi-Purpose Room.
Story time geared for that often in-between stage of child development where children are not quite ready for the independent preschool library program.

Preschool Story Time
Children ages 3-5 are welcome to join us for stories, songs, musical instruments and a craft. This program is designed to be an early school readiness experience. Children attend independently with a caregiver remaining in the Children’s Room.

Sensory Story Time
This story time, which is open to children ages 3-6, is especially geared to children with sensory issues. If your child has difficulty sitting through one of the Library’s other story times, this program of stories, music, movement and other activities may be just what you are looking for.

After School Programs
Once a month throughout the school year an after school program takes place on Tuesday afternoons offering children ages 5-9 (Grades K-4) an opportunity to participate in seasonal or holiday themed activities including arts and crafts and stories.

Saturday Programs
Programs for children of all ages take place once a month and include story times for families, crafts, library scavenger hunts and more!

Read to a Therapy Dog
Therapy dogs Sandy and Payson visit the Library once a month. Children ages 5-11 are given a 10-15 minute time slot to read to Sandy or Payson. It’s a great opportunity to enhance reading skills, build confidence and create a love of reading.

Family Place Parent Child Workshops
The Derby Public Library is a Family Place Network Member offering sessions of Parent/Child Workshops throughout the year. Children ages 1-3 along with a caregiver are invited to attend this free, six week program. Children and parents can share time together playing and meeting new friends in an educational and creative environment. Community resource professionals will also be available to discuss topics of interest for parents.
