This program (formerly Baby & Me) for children from birth to 24 months old along with their caregiver, takes place weekly on Wednesdays, September 7th through December 7th. Come play, learn, and grow during this interactive program that includes play activities to foster developmental and social skills. Featuring a story, songs, rhymes, and more, Baby Steps is a wonderful opportunity for a parent/caregiver to bond with their young child through interactive play. Older siblings are welcome to join us, but need not register.
A six-week session of Family Place -1, 2, 3… Grow With Me begins on Monday, September 12th at 10:00 AM. This brand new, innovative program is a time for families to share together with their 1-3 year-old children. Siblings who are age 5 and under are also welcome to attend, but need not register. Each week features puzzles, books, blocks, a craft, dramatic play and more, followed by a story and rhymes. Parents/caregivers are introduced to available resources to assist in raising their toddlers while children have an opportunity to meet new friends in an educational and creative environment.
The Family Place is a national initiative of Americans for Libraries Council and Middle Country Library. The Family Place of Connecticut is made possible through the generous support of the Katharine Matthies Foundation.
Time for Two’s
Stories, rhymes, songs, movement, and a simple craft are part of this story time for children ages 25 to 36 months old accompanied by their caregiver.
Preschool Story Time
Children ages 3 to 5 are welcome to join us for stories, songs, musical instruments, and a craft. This program is designed to be an early-school readiness experience. Children attend independently in our Multi-purpose Room while their caregiver remains in the Children’s Room.
“1000 Books Before Kindergarten”
A literacy initiative designed to share 1,000 books with your young child prior to their start of kindergarten. Participation is ongoing at a pace that works for each individual family. The only time constraint is that it must be completed before the start of kindergarten, so registration as young as infant/toddler age is encouraged. Reading aloud to your young child sets the foundation for school success!
After School Programs
Once a month throughout the school year, an after school program takes place on Tuesday afternoons offering children, ages 5-9 (Grades K-4) an opportunity to share in seasonal or holiday themed activities including arts, crafts, and stories.
Programs for children of all ages take place one Saturday per month and include story times for families, crafts, library scavenger hunts, and more!
Read to Ollie & Molly the Therapy Dogs
Therapy dogs Ollie and Molly visit the Library every month. Children ages 5 to 11 are given a 10 to 15 minute time slot to read to Ollie twice a month, once a month for Molly. Such a great opportunity to enhance reading skills, build confidence and create a love of reading.
Summer Reading Program
A themed reading program takes place from June to August for all reading leveling including pre-readers.
