Children’s Room

Welcome to the Derby Public Library Children’s Room where we help young minds grow! Here you will find resources for children from birth through age 11, as well as for the adults who care for them.

Our children’s services include age-appropriate weekly story times, after school activities, reading enrichment with therapy dogs, Saturday events and other special family programs scheduled throughout the year. A summer reading program is offered for our young patrons and we also invite pre-readers to participate.

All children’s programs are free to attend and do not require Derby residency. However, registration is requested.

Our collections include fiction and non-fiction titles, picture books, easy readers and beginning chapter books, foreign language books, reference materials and a professional collection for teachers. Our Parents’ Place collection is dedicated to parents/caregivers offering a selection of resources to assist in all aspects of raising children from birth through the tween years. The audiovisual collection includes music CDs, books on tape and CD, DVDs and book kits.

The Children’s Room has public access computers available for children under the age of 12 and computers designated for adult caregivers (who must be at least 18 years old). Please see the Children’s Room Computer Usage Policy for further details.
